I don’t have time to read books for fun; this is simply the truth. It is also true that I read a lot and not all of my reading material is journal articles. We all make time for things that we love and there are few things I love more than a good book.

“The whale is a mammiferous animal without hind feet.”  Baron Cuvier

“And there in the yard, on an ocean of grass, a summer flood of flowers so common no one sees them! Run amok, a pride of lions in the lawn, put your eyes out with the sun…the dandelions” Ray Bradbury, Dandelion Wine

“I agree that two times two makes four is an excellent thing; but if we are dispensing praise, then two times two makes five is sometimes a most charming little thing as well.” Fyodor Dostoevsky, Notes from Underground

“Sometimes in consequence I have taken a kettle from the fire and thrown it through a window. Sometimes, I jump on my own foot, I bite my finger, I run out and break a framed painting over the skull of a pedestrian (once); I throw things; I do, actually, love to throw many things. There is much I love. Because the world is so astonishing, the snails — to take just one of the many possible examples — are so short, and it is all too great for me to think about alone. Or at all.” Annie Dillard, The Abundance: Narrative Essays Old and New
